KOTA
KINABALU: Sabah's top lady bodybuilder Shelen Aderina Kok has been selected to represent Malaysia in three major tournaments this year.
Sabah Bodybuilding Association (SBBA) president Joannes Staneslous said the first of the three international assignments is the 54th Asian Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship in Maldives from September 1-7.
Shelen will then head to Uzbekistan for the 12th World Bodybuilding and Physique Sports Championship from October 1-7 before representing Malaysia in the Vietnam SEA Games 2021 from November 21 to December 2.
The Teacher Training Institute senior lecturer from Tamparuli will compete in Physique competition in the Asian and World championships before switching to bodybuilding event for the SEA Games.
According to Joannes, the selection of Shelen was based on her current form and condition, where she has continued to maintain her top shape despite without any competition in the past one year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Shelen will continue to train in Sabah under coaches Joseph Sylvester and Jeffery Thadeus until she leaves for the Asian championship,” said Joannes, who oversees the athletes selection while Alik Makim as the coordinator.
Shelen is no stranger to bodybuilding and physique sports arena, where she has won numerous titles.
The 52-year-old won gold at Mr Sabah 2018-2019, Mr Borneo 20182019 and also Mr Malaysia 2019.
“We are very proud of her achievement and we congratulate her for being selected to represent Malaysia in three major tournaments this year.
“It is certainly not an easy task for her but we have confidence in her ability...we are all hoping for the best for her,” added Joannes here on Tuesday.
