Papar Harvest Festival celebration on May 1
PAPAR: This year, the district’s Pesta Kaamatan (Harvest Festival) celebration will carry the theme of thanksgiving as the world starts to slowly recover from the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.
Community Development Leader for Limbahau who is also the Organising Chairman of the celebration, Datuk Johnny Mositun said the event is scheduled to be held on May 1.
“Co-organising this event will be the Kadazan Dusun Cultural Association (KDCA) and as a prelude to the celebration, a traditional sacrificial ceremony will be held on April 30,” he said.
According to Mositun, a water buffalo will be sacrificed according to traditional rites on that day to reflect the people’s thankfulness that the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic is improving.
He added that the celebration which will be held at Dewan Sungkadon will be done in full compliance with the SOP set by the authorities.
“Last year we were unable to hold the Kaamatan celebration because of the Covid-19 but with the situation getting better, it will be held this year. And as usual, the highlights of the event will be the Unduk Ngadau and Sugandoi Kaamatan,” said Mositun after chairing the Organising Committee’s meeting.
He added that Assistant Industrial Development Minister cum Pantai Manis assemblyman Mohd Tamin Zainal is scheduled to officiate the event.
