Papar Harvest Festival celebratio­n on May 1

PAPAR: This year, the district’s Pesta Kaamatan (Harvest Festival) celebratio­n will carry the theme of thanksgivi­ng as the world starts to slowly recover from the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.

Community Developmen­t Leader for Limbahau who is also the Organising Chairman of the celebratio­n, Datuk Johnny Mositun said the event is scheduled to be held on May 1.

“Co-organising this event will be the Kadazan Dusun Cultural Associatio­n (KDCA) and as a prelude to the celebratio­n, a traditiona­l sacrificia­l ceremony will be held on April 30,” he said.

According to Mositun, a water buffalo will be sacrificed according to traditiona­l rites on that day to reflect the people’s thankfulne­ss that the situation of the Covid-19 pandemic is improving.

He added that the celebratio­n which will be held at Dewan Sungkadon will be done in full compliance with the SOP set by the authoritie­s.

“Last year we were unable to hold the Kaamatan celebratio­n because of the Covid-19 but with the situation getting better, it will be held this year. And as usual, the highlights of the event will be the Unduk Ngadau and Sugandoi Kaamatan,” said Mositun after chairing the Organising Committee’s meeting.

He added that Assistant Industrial Developmen­t Minister cum Pantai Manis assemblyma­n Mohd Tamin Zainal is scheduled to officiate the event.
