Sabah FC head coach Kurniawan Dwi Yulianto is a hard man to please.

After seeing his team go unbeaten in their last three Super League matches, he has called on his players to keep the run going when they take on Perak FC at the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu on Sunday and gun for a top-six spot in the standings.

In their last three matches, the Rhinos drew twice – 2-2 with Selangor FC at the Petaling Jaya City Council Stadium and 1-1 with Penang at the City Stadium – and thumped UiTM FC 4-0 at the Likas Stadium.

“I believe this is the time for Sabah to step up as we will be playing in front of our own supporters. So, we must use this opportunity to grab all three points.

“However, we must not be over-confident. I want my men to continue to work hard and remained focused on the matches ahead, starting with Perak FC,” he said in a statement issued by the Malaysian Football League (MFL) yesterday.

Kurniawan also reminded his men that none of them are guaranteed a starting spot and, as such, to continue to work hard in training and during matches.

“After Perak FC, we have Melaka United and then Kedah Darul Aman FC. We have to try to beat Perak FC and Melaka United as these two teams are closest to us in the standings. We also have to try and compete against (third-placed) Kedah,” he said.

After 10 matches, Sabah FC are in ninth spot with 10 points, the same as Melaka United, who occupy eighth spot on goal difference. Perak FC, meanwhile, are in 10th spot with nine points.

Meanwhile, Kurniawan has appealed to Sabah FC fans not to get on Liberian striker Sam Johnson’s case despite the import player having scored just two goals thus far.

“He is actually a good player. He’s not very tough but, technically, he has done everything we expected of him,” he said. — Bernama
