KOTA BELUD: Kadamaian assemblyman Datuk Ewon Benedick appreciates the decision made by the local authority to allow the operation of Tamu Pekan Taginambur, which was closed since last year to prevent the spread of Covid-19.

During his walkabout at the tamu ground yesterday, Ewon said he was satisfied with the level of compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) among the traders and visitors at the weekly market.

“The Taginambur Tamu here at Kadamaian Square was reopened last Friday and today is the second week they are doing business here.

“This tamu re-opening allows local traders or villagers to sell their agricultural produce.

“I hope traders and visitors continue to abide by the SOPs set by the government to help tackle the spread of Covid-19,” he said after the event.

A trader, Nairi Lihaan from Kampung Tuguson thanked Ewon for his effort to upgrade the tamu area.

“Before this Kadamaian Square was built, we were selling in an old fashion way, with mud everywhere everytime the rain falls.

“Now, we are selling comfortably and even the roads heading here are already upgraded,” she said.

Nairi, who has been selling in the tamu for the past ten years said visitors have increased this week compared to last week.

“I think people started to know that this tamu has started operating, because I can see more visitors today,” she said yesterday.

Nairi also added that she always wore a face mask and cleaned her hands right after dealing with customers.

She is selling agriculture products and flowers.

For the last one year without the tamu, Nairi has been selling her products online through Facebook.

Also present at the walkabout was Kota Belud Member of Parliament, Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis.
