Firm brings Ramadan cheer to 250 schoolchil­dren

KOTA KINABALU: Repsol Oil & Gas Malaysia Limited (Repsol Malaysia) typified the spirit of Ramadan as a time of charity and generosity when they donated 250 food boxes to selected poor schoolchil­dren from B40 families in the Pitas district recently.

A total of 250 schoolchil­dren were selected by the Pitas District Education Office from 12 schools in Pitas, namely SK Nibang, SK Mapan, SK Mandurian, SK Kibubuk, SK Bawing, SK PInapak, SK Maringgan, SK Bangkau-Bangkau, SK Liu and SMK Bongkol.

The symbolic handing over ceremony of the 250 food boxes was done by Datuk Eddie Abdullah, Repsol Malaysia’s advisor for government & community relations (Sabah/Labuan) to the headmaster­s and principal in the presence of Pitas District Education Officer, Malati binti Lasjim at Dewan PPD Pitas.

Speaking at the ceremony, Malati expressed her deep appreciati­on to Repsol Malaysia for their generosity and kind gesture to the targeted schoolchil­dren in Pitas on behalf of the schools, teachers and the parents of all the schoolchil­dren who benefited through this Repsol Ramadan Cheer programme.

“Repsol went to the right district and for that, we are deeply grateful that they selected Pitas for their Ramadan cheer programme this year,” she added.

Eddie disclosed that the food boxes included 10 kg of rice, cooking oil, various tinned foodstuff, sugar, tea, coffee, maggi mee, Raya biscuits, kurma and face masks.

He explained that the Repsol Ramadan Cheer initiative was a way of reaching out to a section of the poorest schoolchil­dren in Pitas in conjunctio­n with this holy month of Ramadan AlMubarak.

“We hope that this assistance will ease the burden of the recipient’s families and at the same time, bring about a li le cheer and joy as well as upli their spirits in this blessed month,” he remarked.

Later, Malati brought Eddie and entourage on a field trip to the homes of two recipients and going by their poor background, they were indeed deserving of this Repsol Ramadan Cheer food box.

One was Mohamad Hafiz bin Abdul Lasin, a Year 6 pupil at SK Pekan Pitas while the other was Mohammad Hanafi, a Year 2 pupil at SK Senaja, Pitas.

Also present were their parents who expressed their deep appreciati­on to Repsol Malaysia for this timely gesture.

This is another collaborat­ion between Repsol Malaysia and the Education Department in Sabah.
