Salesman jailed, fined for embezzling employer’s money

KOTA KINABALU: The Sessions Court here sentenced a salesman to one year’s jail with effect from yesterday plus RM2,000 fine, in default, six months’ jail for embezzling his employer’s money from the sale of eggs.

Judge Noor Hafizah Mohd Salim imposed the sentences on Wong Tsun Hiung, 50, after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 408 of the Penal Code.

The indictment provides for a jail term of up to 14 years and whipping and also liable to a fine, upon conviction.

The accused admitted to committing criminal breach of trust on the sales money amounting to RM20,000 which was credited to his bank account by a buyer but the accused did not hand over the money to his boss.

The offence was committed at the company in Inanam on November 12, 2020.

The facts of the case stated that upon investigat­ion, it was revealed that the accused took the money for his own use.

The accused was entrusted by the company as a salesman to do eggs supply delivery and payments were also received by the accused from customers since November 15, 2015.
