CM urges Sedia to continue to be active in CSR programmes

-

Sabah Economic Development and Investment Authority (Sedia) has been urged to continue to be active in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes in the state.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor in making the call, said Sedia’s CSR program to assist those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic is welcomed as it complements the state government’s efforts.

“Sedia under its CSR program has identified areas where the rakyat are severely affected by the Covid-19 pandemic and then distributed food baskets to them.

“This supports the state government’s food basket programme to reduce the burden of the rakyat affected by the pandemic, especially in targeted areas,” said Hajiji.

Hajiji who is also Sedia chairman, said this after presenting the food aid in Tuaran on Sunday.

The event which was held at the Pusat Kebudayaan Bajau Samah in Kampung Lok Batik, Tuaran saw 300 food baskets distributed to residents from several villages in the district.

The Sulaman assemblyman disclosed that among objectives of Sedia’s programme on Sunday was to distribute food aid to those identified (in need of assistance), to symbolise the effort between Sedia, the state government and frontliners in ensuring that the rakyat are protected from the Covid-19 pandemic as well as to help promote the registration for the Covid-19 vaccination programme.

According to Hajiji, the Covid19 pandemic in the country has caused the unemployment rate to increase and Sabah is not left out in the matter.

Actions put in place to stem the spread of the Covid-19 virus had also resulted in businesses being affected as well as movement restriction for the rakyat, Hajiji said.

“I hope that through the implementation of this CSR, the relationship and cooperation between the local community involved, the state government and Sedia will be further strengthened,” he said.

Sedia, when distributing the food baskets will ensure strict compliance to the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) set by the government.

Also present were Special Tasks Minister Datuk Mohd Arifin Arif, Assistant Finance Minister Jasnih Daya and Sedia Chief Executive Datuk Seri Panglima Hashim Paijan.
