Sarawak records highest number of daily Covid fatalities

Sarawak yesterday recorded 20 Covid fatalities out of which three were Broughtin-Dead (BID) cases, said the State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC).

This marked the highest number of Covid-19-related fatalities recorded in the state within a 24-hour period.

SDMC in its daily update statement said that two of the BID cases were recorded in Serian while one was from Sri Aman.

“The BID cases in Serian involve a woman aged 90 and a man aged 97. The former tested positive on Sept 8 and had comorbidit­ies of high blood, while the latter tested positive on Sept 9 with no known medical history.

“The BID case in Sri Aman involves a man aged 66 who tested positive on Sept 15. He had high blood and dyslipidem­ia,” SDMC said.

One death at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) involved a man from Bau aged 86 who was found positive on Aug 19. He had high blood, gout, chronic kidney disease as well as chronic heart and liver disease.

Another death at SGH involved a woman from Kuching aged 77 who tested positive on Sept 10 and she had high blood, dyslipidem­ia and gout. One other death, also at SGH, involved a 70year-old man from Serian who tested positive on Sept 15. He had high blood.

The other deaths were a 62year-old man from Selangau who passed away at Sibu Hospital and had tested positive on Aug 19; a 79-year-old woman from Lubok Antu who died at Sri Aman Hospital and was found positive on Sept 3; a 70-year-old man and 52-year-old woman at Sibu Hospital who tested positive on Sept 4 and Sept 8, respective­ly; a 75-year-old man from Matu who died at Sibu Hospital and had tested positive on Sept 11.

The rest of the deaths were two men aged 88 and 66 passed away at Miri Hospital; two women aged 53 and 82 at Sibu Hospital; a 73-year-old woman from Lubok Antu had died at Sri Aman Hospital; a 90-year-old woman from Beluru who died at Miri Hospital; a 45-year-old man who died at Bintulu Hospital; a man from Sri Aman aged 74 who died at Sri Aman Hospital; and a man aged 68 from Kanowit who died at Sibu Hospital.

To date, Sarawak has recorded 689 deaths due to Covid-19.
