KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) through its Career and Student Entrepreneurship Development Centre organized a Carnival and Sales Event Management Program recently.

The centre’s director, Dr Soon Singh Bikar Singh, said the program was organized under the ‘Pelan Jana Semula Ekonomi Negara’ (PENJANA) under the Ministry of Higher Education.

Dr Soon said the program was conducted online and saw the participation of 50 bachelor’s degree graduates in various fields.

Dr Soon in a statement yesterday said the program was to elevate the living standards of the participants, create a skilled and proactive technical workforce, as well as reduce dependence on foreign workers.

“At the same time it aimed at reducing the unemployment rate and social ills in the community,” he said.

Dr Soon said that the month-long program was done in collaboration with KK Event House Sdn Bhd and the participants were given real exposure related to the management of carnival events and actual sales in various situations.

“Several speakers were invited to deliver sharing sessions and briefings to the participants which aimed to give a clear picture and also general sharing to the participants.

“Overall, it can be said that this program has given a positive impact among the participants who have said that almost all the slots they attended have attracted interest and aroused their enthusiasm to venture into the field of event management,” he explained.

Dr Soon in expressing gratitude to all those involved in the program and making it a success recorded special thanks to PENJANA KPT-CAP, UMS and KK Event House Sdn Bhd for their cooperation and commitment in the successful implementation of the Carnival and Sales Event Management Program.
