Sabah Umno will find ways to help Melaka counterpart

-

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Umno will find ways to assist its counterpart in Melaka for the upcoming state election while complying with the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Sabah Umno deputy chairman Datuk Yakub Khan said that Sabah Umno would take heed of the Ministry of Health’s (MoH) order to prohibit any electionrelated gatherings, from October 25 to November 27.

“The MoH has recently limited the campaign activities in Melaka. Surely, we will find ways on how we can work there, from the campaign period up till polling day,” he told reporters after handing out tablets to the students at SMK Tobobon here on Tuesday.

On October 23, Sabah Umno chairman Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin had announced that Sabah Umno’s Women, Youth, and Puteri divisions would be camping in Melaka throughout the campaign period.

The next day, Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said that the government would be prohibiting any election-related gatherings or social activities throughout the aforementioned period, to reduce the risk of Covid-19 infections.

Yakub disclosed that Sabah Umno has yet to decide on the number of party members that would be sent to Melaka.

It is understood that Melaka Umno had assisted its counterpart in Sabah during last year’s snap election here.

“To me personally, Melaka (Umno) is close to my heart as they had helped me during the previous snap election. Melaka (Umno) had assisted me in my N.16 Karambunai constituency.

“I owe them. God willing, I will return the favour to the best of my ability,” said Yakub.
