UMS organising International Postgraduate Conference On Biotechnology
KOTA KINABALU: Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) is organising the 5th International Postgraduate Conference On Biotechnology (IPCB) 2021 on Dec 8 to 15.
The conference will be held for the first time with three research institutes at UMS, namely the Borneo Marine Research Institute (IPMB), the Institute of Tropical Biology and Conservation (IBTP) and the Biotechnology Research Institute (IPB).
Organizing chairman of IPCB 2021, Prof Madya Ts Dr Sitti Raehanah Mohd Shaleh said it is also organized in collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT) Soka University, Japan and Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology, Indonesia.
“This conference, among others, aims to strengthen research collaboration among young researchers. It also encourages multilateral cooperation in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) thus advancing the next generation of science and driving the sustainable development of natural resources,” she said.
According to Dr Sitti Raehanah, the conference will also feature Professor Patrick Sorgeloos from Ghent University, Belgium as the keynote speaker.
Another keynote speaker will be Dr Henry Bernard from the
Institute of Tropical Biology and Conservation (IBTP) UMS, she said, adding that 68 participants have confirmed their participation and will participate in oral presentations and through research posters.
For the record, IPCB 2021 will have the theme of natural resource and ecosystem studies; environmental management; bio technologies and applications; and eco-engineering.
The three-day conference will be co-chaired by the Director of IPB UMS Prof Dr Lee Ping Chin, and Director of IBTP UMS, Prof Prof Dr Monica Suleiman.
