KOTA KINABALU:

Pertubuhan Muafakat Titipan Amal Isteri Wakil Rakyat, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (MUTIARA GRS) yesterday visited two welfare homes for the elderly in Papar.

Led by its head, the Chief Minister’s wife, Datin Seri Panglima Juliah Salag, they visited the Sri Pritchard home for the elderly in Kinarut and the Holy Family Residence in Papar.

During the visit, the Muafakat Kasih delegation handed over donations in the form of basic necessities including food, kitchen items and toiletries as well as some financial assistance for the homes.

Juliah presented the donation for Sri Pritchard to its Board of Visitors chairman Datin Rahimah Ahmad while Holy Family Residence was received by Sister Clara Juita.

The program is a collaboration between MUTIARA GRS and Yayasan Kebajikan Sabah.

Meanwhile, Vice President III and chairman of MUTIARA GRS’ Welfare Bureau, Datin Linda Ewit, said the purpose of the program was to help those affected, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Hopefully, this assistance will help ease the burden of those affected by the pandemic. This is the second program this year and we were quite limited in holding activities because of this pandemic. This program is the second this year after the kuih raya baking activity in conjunction with Ramadan.

“For next year, the MUTIARA GRS Welfare Bureau has planned several programs to be held throughout Sabah,” she said.

Also present were Kawang State Assemblyman Datuk Ghulam Haidar Khan Bahadar; Vice President I, Datin

Seri Panglima Nor Asidah Alimuddin and Vice President II Datin Seri Panglima Cecilia Edwin Kitingan.

Linda said the MUTIARA GRS Welfare Bureau focuses on programs that involve the welfare of the elderly, orphans, the disabled (OKU) and the poor.

“This welfare program is also held in line with the recommendations and encouragement given by the Chief Minister who is also the advisor of MUTIARA GRS, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, who wants wives of all elected representatives to help in welfare activities,” she said.
