KOTA KINABALU: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Bung Moktar Radin is confident that the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) government can survive if all coalition parties and elected representatives work as a team in fulfilling the aspirations of the people in the state.

The people have placed high trust and aspirations in the current government, therefore we need to appreciate that trust by working hard to develop Sabah and forget all our differences.

Speaking at the Backbenchers Retreat recently, Bung said although the current government is formed from nine coalition parties and is considered fragile, but if there is a strong consensus among its members and elected representatives, there is no reason why this coalition cannot survive.

“The people have placed high trust and aspirations in the current government, therefore we need to appreciate that trust by working hard to develop Sabah and forget all our differences,” he said.

Also present was GRS Government Backbenchers Club chairman Datuk Seri Panglima Dr Salleh Tun Said Keruak, guest speaker Datuk Haji Md Alwi Che Ahmad and GRS state assemblymen.

According to Bung who is also the Works Minister, to create a stable government, it demands the unity of all parties in facing the crisis of the country.

“This togetherness and cooperation is very important to stabilize the country at a time of political crisis, health and economic situation that Malaysians are facing due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

“The people are now mature in thinking and evaluating the actions of the government and elected representatives. They are no longer lulled by the announcement of how much allocation to implement development projects but what they expect publicly and immediate action to implement it,” he added.

Meanwhile, Bung, who is also the Lamag assemblyman, wants every GRS representative to participate in the debate session during the Sabah State Assembly sitting.

He said they should not only bring issues in the constituency but also to bring issues that are more relevant to the interests of the people and the state.

“We need to be knowledgeable assemblymen who are talking based on facts so that we can face provocations and propaganda brought by the opposition during the state assembly session” he further elaborated.

Through the Backbenchers Retreat, Bung was hoping that he will be able to provide some guidance to the assemblymen.
