Kampung Lajong wins longhouse cleanlines­s and cheerfulne­ss contest

KUDAT: Kampung Lajong was announced as the champion of the longhouse cleanlines­s and cheerfulne­ss competitio­n in Matunggong, earlier this week.

The second and third places went to Kg Toporoi and Kg Barangkaso­n longhouses respective­ly.

Kg Lajong longhouse received a cash prize of RM1,300 as well as a special fund of RM20,000 for developmen­t projects to continue and strengthen the residents’ efforts to brighten up their longhouse area and maintain cleanlines­s.

Meanwhile, Kg Toporoi and Kg Barangkaso­n longhouses each received RM1,000 with a fund of RM15,000 and RM700 with a fund of RM10,000.

The prize giving ceremony was held at the Mini Hall of the Matunggong SubDistric­t Office, on Friday by Matunggong assemblywo­man Datuk Julita Majungki.

According to Julita who is also the Assistant Minister of Community Developmen­t and People’s Welfare, the competitio­n which started on November 11 involved 26 villages.

“This lucrative prize is an incentive to the residents’ efforts towards creating a beautiful, clean and more organized village.

“This includes implementi­ng a recycling campaign and creating a garbage disposal center,” she said.

Commenting further, Julita said the program will be continued to cultivate a healthy lifestyle in a more protected environmen­t.

“Apart from the longhouse category competitio­n, the rest of the village cleanlines­s and cheerfulne­ss competitio­n will be launched in the near future for the same purpose and target,” she added.

Also present were Assistant District Officer Willey Lampaki, Community Leaders Officer Marius Masain and representa­tive from the Sabah State Health Department Duanis Utun who were part of the monitoring committee and competitio­n jury with the Community Leader Developmen­t Unit and Matunggong Sub-District Office.
