A&W Malaysia eyes RM200 mln in sales this year

SEREMBAN: Fast food restaurant A&W Malaysia Sdn Bhd (A&W) is targeting sales revenue of RM200 million this year from more than 70 branches after a monthly boost in sales amounting to RM13 million last December, the highest in 15 years.

Chief executive officer Ang Choon Yan @ George Ang said sales revenue in 2021 rose 15 per cent to more than RM100 million despite the Covid-19 pandemic compared with 2020.

“We were lucky because many purchases were made via home deliveries,” he told reporters after Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun officiated its Seremban drive-through restaurant and Jamaica Blue coffee shop.

“In fact, we recorded the highest sales last December at RM13 million; the best record in 15 years. Every month, we set a target of between RM13 million and RM15 million,” he said.

Ang, who is also Inter Mark Resources director, said the company aims to expand A&W branches to more than 150, including in Sabah and Sarawak, by 2025 at a cost of RM75 million. Inter Mark bought the fast-food chain in 2018, according to press reports.

“We will open 25 branches this year; by 2025 we hope there will be more than 150 branches nationwide,” he said.

Ang said Inter Mark Resources would like to invest in several new brands in the country, including Jamaica Blue and Subway. The opening of the first Jamaica Blue cafe is strategic as it offers diversity to A&W Seremban’s clientele.

He said all new A&W branches will feature modern-retro ambiance with an eclectic mix of nostalgia to draw in the younger crowd, including its Seremban branch which is the country’s oldest A&W restaurant. — Bernama
