Jetama awarded 10MWac large scale solar photovoltaic project in Labuan
Jetama Sdn Bhd in a joint venture with Symbior Solar Siam Ltd, secured a contract to develop and operate a 10MWac large-scale solar photovoltaic plant in Labuan through the joint venture company, Solar PV Power Sdn Bhd (SPPS). The Energy and Natural Resources Minister, Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan made a symbolic presentation of the Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) signed with Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB)at a local hotel recently.
In a statement today the company informed that the contract duration is for twenty-one years projected to begin from June 2023 where the solar power produced by the plant will be purchased by SESB for the whole duration.
The job scope of the contract involves the financing, design, construction, commissioning, and operations cum maintenance of the photovoltaic plant on 42 acres of land located at Kampung Bukit Kalam in Labuan. The power produced will be injected into the SESB substation at PPU Bangat.
The project is expected to cost around RM50 million and construction is expected to start in July 2022 and be completed by March 2023. The Scheduled Commercial Operations Date is expected to be before June 2023.
Jetama Sdn Bhd is the water concessionaire for the West Coast of Sabah since 1993, operating the Moyog water treatment plant and Babagon Dam together with another 5 water treatment plants and other facilities. The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sabah Development Bhd.

While our expertise is in water utilities, the company has decided to diversify into energy through its wholly-owned subsidiary Sabah Development Energy Sdn Bhd in line with the spirit of Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya. The 10MWac large-scale solar photovoltaic plant in Labuan will be our first into the renewable energy sector and hopefully, the first of many to come,” said Jetama CEO Encik Ahmad Naim bin Uddang.
Jetama is also presently looking at developing a floating solar photovoltaic plant at its Babagon Dam facility.
