Jawala plants 915,998 seedlings at industrial tree plantations area
KOTA KINABALU: Jawala Plantation Industries Sdn Bhd (Jawala) has already planted 915,998 seedlings on 2,151 hectares of land at the Industrial Tree Plantations (ITP) area that it manages.
The ITP area managed by Jawala is part of the Forest Management Unit 14 at the Sapulut forest Reserve, Tibow, said Jawala Inc/Jawala Plantation Industries Group Chief Executive Officer Rahman Khan.
“The species planted are White Laran (Neolamarckia Cadamba), Albizia (Falcataria moluccana), Khaya Ivorensis and Red Laran with White Laran being the most dominant with 1,548 hectares planted with 630,454 seedlings sourced from its selected mother tres within the concession area,” he said in a statement yesterday after receiving a delegation from the Sabah Forestry Department led by Chief Conservator of Forests, Datuk Frederick Kugan.
Kugan was accompanied by the Deputy Conservator of Forest, Roslan Junaidi and all heads of units from the headquarters.
Also part of the delegation were members from the Natural Resource Office and the Sabah Timber Industries Association (STIA).
Also present was Jawala Plantation Industries Sdn Bhd chief operations officer Maxy Self.
The purpose of the visit was to view the current status and find out about issues and challenges related to the ITP.
The visit was conducted after the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Haji Noor launched the Forest Plantation Development Action Plan.
During the visit, the Sabah Forestry Department delegation was briefed on Jawala’s planting progress, sustainability initiatives, conservation initiatives, CSR programmes, research and development and product development of Laran.
Also discussed were issues and challenges faced by the industry.
Jawala has commenced planting operations since April 2018.
The delegation was then taken to view the planted compartments followed by a tree planting programme at Jawala’s intermediate reforestation office.
Jawala Plantation Industries Sdn Bhd is a subsidiary company of Jawala Inc, a company listed on the Singapore Exchange specialising on sustainable forest management with focus on industrial tree plantations in Sabah.
