Woman injured as veranda falls on her

KOTA KINABALU: A woman was rushed to hospital when a section of a veranda fell on her at Jalan Sembulan here on Tuesday.

Kota Kinabalu fire and rescue station chief Ordine Gilu said the 55-year-old Indonesian woman, identified as Nurmiati binti Doti, suffered serious injuries in the 10am incident.

It is learnt that the victim was working on the ground level of a shop when concrete slabs from the veranda fell on her around 10am.

Ordine said a distress call was made to the station at 10.02am and a team was dispatched to the location, about two kilometers from the station.

The woman was given early treatment at the scene by EMRS before she was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital 1.

Ordine said the section of the area was cordoned off to prevent any untoward incident from happening before the operation ended at 10.40am.

Investigat­ion is being carried out to determine the cause.

Meanwhile, a woman was carried down from Mount Kinbalu by a Mountain Search and Rescue team (Mosar) after she injured her ankle on Tuesday.

A spokespers­on from the State Fire and Rescue Department said Mosar was deployed to the location upon receiving informatio­n of the incident at 9.55am.

The 49-year-old woman was given early treatment by the Mosar team before she was carried down on a stretcher to Timpohon Gate.

She was then transporte­d to the Ranau hospital in an ambulance before the operation ended at 12.44pm, said the spokespers­on.

In Tambunan, a search and rescue operation was launched for a villager at Kg LobouLobou when his family reported him missing on Monday morning.

The operation was called off when Helry Junior Michel, 29, returned home safe and sound in the wee hours of Tuesday.
