106 UMS, Unimas students complete police training
KOTA KINABALU: One hundred and six trainees received their Inspector Accreditation Certificate Corps (Kor SUKSIS) Borneo Zone on Tuesday.
Of the 106 recipients, 68 were Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) students while 38 were students from Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas).
The certificates were awarded by Sabah Police Commissioner Datuk Idris Abdullah at the Chancellor’s Hall, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS).
Idris, in his speech said the establishment of the Student Police Volunteer Reserve Corps or Sukarelawan Simpanan Polis Siswa Siswi (Kor SUKSIS) is aimed to provide education and exposure on police training to trainees in addition to being one of the main and important co-curricular activities in every public university.
“The Kor SUKSIS trainees have to undergo training for three years or six semesters involving 672 hours in total, according to the training syllabus that has been coordinated and set in all public universities.
“With the established training modules such as the Parade Training Module, the Weapons Training Module, the General Operations Force Basic Course Module and the Community Service Program Module, trainees will have learned many skills such as leadership and policing knowledge,” he said.
Idris added that the country needs a generation of leaders who are knowledgeable, have excellent culture, are responsible, visionary and have integrity, strong resilience and enthusiasm in implementing the national agenda. He therefore hoped the Kor SUKSIS graduates from UMS and Unimas would choose the job of police as their future career.
“Graduates can apply for senior police officer positions based on the recruitment offers issued from time to time. The experience of undergoing training from Kor SUKSIS will be an advantage in the screening and interview process,” he said.
