1,050 M’sians continue studies in China universities

-

KOTA KINABALU: A total of 1,050 Malaysian students have left for China to continue their university studies.

Gerakan Sabah Chairman cum National Gerakan China Affairs Commissioner Datuk Alexander Lo Su Hyen said that these students have already arrived in China under the arrangements of the party’s China Affairs Committee and the Malaysian China Students’ Association as well as through the concerted efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia and the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia.

In addition, he revealed that there are about 1,300 other registered Malaysian students who will be heading to China universities in mid-October after the National Day holiday in China.

According to Lo, some parents expressed their worry about the cost of PCR Covid test that their children who are studying in China must take before they travel to the Republic.

“The test costs between RM180 and RM220 and students studying in China must undergo two PCR tests before returning to China campuses,” he said, adding that Gerakan Sabah is negotiating with the Covid test center to partially sponsor the students by reducing the test rate to below RM100.

“Hopefully the related sponsorship plan will be realised by mid-October,” he said after attending the Republic of China’s 73rd anniversary celebration in Kuala Lumpur with National Gerakan’s China Affairs Committee and other representatives of the party including National Vice-President cum Foreign Minister’s Special Adviser Datuk Ranndy Yap Yun Hing.

Attendees included Gerakan National Chief Treasurer Hng Chee Wey, Selangor Joint Committee Chairman Datuk Hong Chin Tat, Deputy Secretary General Wendy Subramaniam, and Party President Special Assistant Tan Yong Herr, Sabah Gerakan Treasurer William Ooi.
