LAHAD DATU: The rising demand for sustainable palm oil has become much soughtafter, according to the head of plant factory facility of Gamalux Oils Sdn Bhd, James Thiruchelvam.

“We have seen a positive increase in demand from our domestic and international prospects towards environmentally friendly and sustainable palm oil products specially in biodiesel industries.

Business is picking up significantly during this post-pandemic,” he said at a working visit of MalaysiaChina Chamber of Commerce (MCCC) together with Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee, chairman of POIC to Gamalux

Oils Sdn Bhd in Lahad Datu, on Monday.

Gamalux Oils Sdn Bhd is involved in extracting residue palm oil from spent bleaching earth (SBE), the solid waste from refineries in the region. The company has invested 11.5 acres in POIC, creating more than 200 job opportunities and another 120 new job creations for its additional manufacturing complex which consisting of the first oleochemical plant in Sabah.

Malaysia-China Chamber of Commerce president Michael Chin Wee Yee said the working visit will give them more insights on palm oil industry and future potential growth in the region.

“The visit allowed our members to understand palm oil industry that is available in POIC. As one of the investors in POIC, Gamalux Oils supports the palm oil industry in Sabah by recycling the solid waste (SBE) from refineries and ensuring the safety and environment compliance of the industry, and that is something that we are keen to explore.

“Moving forward, we would want to see the business opportunities that we can tap into with Gamalux Oils, as we have substantial members around Malaysia as well as in China market,” he said.
