MRO Asia Pacific Aviation Week to help revive MRO services sector

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia’s recent participation in the MRO Asia Pacific 2022 Aviation Week is expected to help revive the country’s maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) services sector.

Amran Yem, the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation’s (Matrade) export promotion and market access division senior director, said the move would also strengthen the market visibility and capabilities of Malaysia’s MRO segment and its related services in Singapore, the largest aerospace and MRO industry hub in the region.

“Due to international travel bans and border closures brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic, many aircraft were grounded, which had negatively impacted worldwide MRO performance.

“However, the reopening of borders and the rejuvenation of airline operations globally in 2022 have provided Malaysia the chance to promote the MRO sector,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Additionally, data from the International Air Transport Association for July 2022 revealed that demand for MRO services for cargo flights had increased from July 2021 to July 2022, tracking at or near prepandemic levels in worldwide air cargo markets.

Matrade said the recently concluded MRO Asia Pacific 2022 witnessed the participation of three Malaysian companies and an association - the Malaysia Aerospace Industry Association (MAIA) – together with strong support from three government agencies namely Matrade, National Aerospace Industry Coordination Office (NAICO) and Malaysian Investment Development Authority, in promoting the country’s MRO services.
