Christian on quest for maiden title at KL Open
KUALA LUMPUR: Despite not being at his best, national tennis player Christian Didier Chin is determined to hunt for his maiden title in the men’s singles category at the 2022 Kuala Lumpur Open National Circuit Tennis Championships. which started yesterday and ends on Sunday.
Speaking to reporters, the 22year-old, who is making his third appearance at the tournament, said he is optimistic that he will be able to perform well even though he will receive stiff competition from South Korean participants.
For the record, he lost in the final in his first appearance in 2015 while only winning the men’s doubles title in his second in 2019.
“It’s good because the Kuala
Lumpur Open is the biggest event in Asia for tennis so I hope to play my best and enjoy myself. I can see the title this time, a lot of young players here so I am just here to play good tennis.
“This time it feels a little weird because I am going in as the first seed but I will try, take one game at a time because my left hand is injured. Maybe because I went to the gym a lot and did workout, which I should not do, so still recovering,” he said.
Christian said the decision to participate in the tournament was made at the last minute, after being invited by one of the members of the Lawn Tennis Association of Malaysia (LTAM) who wanted to see him perform at the prestigious tournament.
Meanwhile, Christian said he had migrated to Sydney, Australia since January this year to get a new lease of life in the world of tennis, but was still getting the services of his personal trainer Saeed Alirizad.
The Sabah-born player, however, stressed that he is ready to play for the country if his services are needed in any tournament.
“It’s hard, but long term it will benefit me… Tennis is a big sport, if I play there with Australians, I can be more matured. At the same time, my aim is to play in bigger tournaments,” he said.
