15 Pejuang candidates lose deposits in Sabah
KOTA KINABALU: Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Pejuang) suffered a humbling defeat in the 15th General Election (GE15) after all of its candidates lost their deposit and one candidate scoring the second lowest number of overall votes in Sabah.
Fifteen Pejuang candidates lost their deposits in their respective contested parliamentary seats in Sabah: Jamani bin Derimin (Pensiangan), Petronella Usun (Kudat), Hausing bin Samsudin @ Sudin (Beluran), Mohd Azmi bin hj Zulkiflee (Kota Marudu), Mumimin B. Norbinsha (Tuaran), Poyne B. Tudus @ Patrick Payne (Putatan), Yusof bin Kunchang (Sepanggar), Jeffir @ Amat Pudang (Libaran), Azizul Julirin (Ranau), Yusop bin Osman (Kimanis), Dr Nur Aini Abd Rahman (MD) (Kalabakan), Nicholas Sylvester @ Berry (Papar), Herman bin Amdas (Tawau), Ab Rajik Ab Hamid (Semporna) and Boni Yusuf Juanico Abdullah (Batu Sapi).
Jamani, who contested for the Pensiangan parliamentary seat, garnered the second lowest number of overall votes in Sabah with 124 following a fivecornered fight, while independent candidate Peggy Chaw Zhi Ting who contested for the Tenom seat scored the least votes at 88. Coming in third is independent candidate Marcel Jude at 137 votes.
Meanwhile, the Putatan parliamentary seat saw a close fight between Shahelmey bin Yahya (Barisan Nasional) and incumbent Awang Husaini bin Sahari (PH), with Shahelmey edging out his competitor by only a small margin of 124 vote majority.
In the 14th General Election (GE14), Husaini emerged victorious against Datuk Dr Marcus M. Mojigoh (BN-Upko) with a 2,339vote majority while contesting under the Pakatan Harapan-Parti Keadilan Rakyat ticket.
The Tuaran seat also saw a heated battle which ended up with incumbent Datuk Seri Wilfred Madius Tangau (PH) successfully defending his seat against Datuk Joniston Bangkuai (GRS) with a thin 233 majority votes.
In GE14, Madius who contested under the Barisan NasionalUnited Progressive Kinabalu Organization ticket won against Chrisnadia Sinam (PHPKR) with a big vote majority of 7,624.
