Likas rep: Bring down prices, resolve flood issue

-

KOTA KINABALU: Likas assemblyman Tan Lee Fatt urged the Sabah Government to study policies or programmes that could bring down prices of raw materials, goods and food.

“Among the issues raised by the people during the last general election is the high cost of living. Even business owners are not spared from the high price of raw materials,” he said.

Speaking at the State Legislative Assembly on Monday, Tan also raised the flood issue which he said is common in Likas.

“The flood issue is not foreign to Likas,” he said.

Tan hopes the Public Works Department (PWD), Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) and Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) can solve the flood issue in Likas and other places as soon as possible.

“I ask that the drains and monsoon drains are maintained and if needed, upgraded. I ask PWD, DBKK and DID to re-study the city planning to ensure drains can accommodate the rainwater.

“I suggest for the drainages to be built under the road as retention ponds and accommodate rainwater,” he said.

Tan also lamented that the public transport system in Kota Kinabalu to other towns in Sabah is not effective.

“I hope the government can improve and upgrade the public transport system in Sabah and study all public transport system plans so that the people can reduce their commuting cost,” he said.

Tan also raised the issue of water supply in Sabah which he described as reaching critical level, as well as students not receiving assistance and scholarships even after achieving excellence in their grades.

“Sabahans are not given priority in the civil service. It is not impossible for students and citizens of Sabah who are skilled to migrate to other countries in the future and leave a brain drain if they are not given priority.

“It is impossible that we cannot help our students who are excellent,” he said.
