KOTA KINABALU: Datuk Awang Aslee Lakat has been re-elected as Sabah Handball Association (SABHA) president during its ninth hybrid general meeting here recently.

Awang Aslee, who is also the Umno Beaufort Division chief, won the position unopposed in the election for the 2024-2026 term. With his re-election, Awang Aslee is now leading SABHA for a second term after being elected president last year.

Vijaya Kumar A/L Arumugam was elected as deputy president while Rizwan Dahlan, Nazir Haj Salleh and Azami Laman were elected as Vice President I, II and III respectively.

Mohd Yahde Awang Matusin was elected as Secretary General while Abdul Rahman Mohd Taib was appointed as Treasurer General.

Norazwan Mohamed, Sazry Rame, Awang Mohd Taufiq Awang Ali, Wan Dayangku Syazwana Ag Matasan, Rozaidi Aizuddin Zuhair and Melissa Jemolin are the association’s new highest councilors.

Awang Aslee expressed his gratitude to the delegates who gave him the mandate and trust to be president for the second time.

He said the trust given to him is a big responsibility in empowering the direction of SABHA. As a relatively new sports association in the state, it requires commitment and teamwork of committee members and members to move forward.

Awang Aslee said he will try to overcome the problems faced by SABHA and further strengthen the sport of handball in the state.

“Handball is relatively new in Sabah compared to other sports, therefore to ensure that it is of interest to the community, we will popularize this sport through courses and tournaments,” he said.

Awang Aslee hopes that with the support of all parties, handball will become one of the sports that will be loved by the community, especially the young people, and with the programs, courses, training and tournaments that are organized, more young handball talents can be born and able to compete in any tournament both at the national and international level.
