Minister happy to see MRP funds for Kapit being put to good use
KAPIT: Federal Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi is pleased to see that the Minor Rural Project (MRP) funds allocated for his Kapit parliamentary constituency have been put to good use.
He hails the just-completed Kapit Community Baptist Church building at KM3 of Jalan Bukit Goram here as a prime example of such utilisation.
The minister officiated at the opening ceremony recently, where he was accompanied by his political secretary Ambrose Abong Bugek, Watson Awan Jalai who is a political secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Kapit District officer Cerisologo Sabut, and local community leader Pemanca Pasang Tubak.
According to Nanta, it was his fourth visit to the church site, the first being the blessing ceremony for the project ground back in 2016. He later conducted a tour, led by Reverend Pastor Elli Laang and chairman of the church committee Chubing Bangkong.
“I have been told that for this parish, there is a 600-strong congregation, representing many areas from all over Kapit.
“I am very happy to see that MRP allocations from myself and Datuk Jefferson Jamit Unyat (Deputy Minister in Sarawak Premier’s Department — Native Laws and Customs), are being used to improve many infrastructures here,” Nanta told reporters.
In response to a request by Pastor Elli for improve works on a 100m section of the concrete access road from the Jalan Bukit Goram junction, Nanta gave his assurance that he would work on it together with Jamit, who is Bukit Goram assemblyman.
The Kapit MP later announced another allocation of RM10,000 from his MRP grant for the church — to be divided into RM5,000 for the church to carry out activities for its congregation, and RM5,000 for the children’s educational programmes.
Earlier in his opening remarks, Pastor Elli said the works on the new church kicked off in 2016.
The funding for the project included RM150,000 from Unit For Other Religions (Unifor), RM370,000 from Sarawak Baptist Church, and RM30, 000 from Nanta.
