Abg Johari to be a panellist at forum on climate change
KUCHING: Sarawak will share views with European countries on the state’s plans and perspectives in dealing with climate change, says Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
In this regard, he also said that he would become a panel member of the Central European Hydrogen Technology Forum and Central European Decarbonisation Forum, by invitation from the Marshall of the Wielkopolska Region, Marek Wozniak.
“I was invited by a European party based in Poland, and the topic to be shared would be how Sarawak would handle the climate change problem.
“What we have done in Sarawak has been seen by them (Europe), where they monitor the world body, and for that reason I have been invited to give my opinions (on dealing with climate change) especially in European countries,” he told reporters when met after attending a Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house hosted by Deputy Minister for Utilities and Telecommunications Sarawak Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi at Taman Gaya, Jalan Sultan Tengah here on Thursday night.
Abang Johari added that the key to the initiative would be the determination and commitment of the Sarawak government in helping to deal with the global climate issues.
“Sarawak’s efforts in dealing with the problem of climate change have received the attention from the European countries.
“Because we have started to capture carbon and use green hydrogen energy, they want to see Sarawak’s perspective.
“That is why I was invited to be a panellist of the forum,” he said, adding that the forum would be held from April 24-25.
In an issued statement, it is said that at the forum, Abang Johari will talk about Sarawak’s perspectives and the state’s experience through its initiatives towards energy transition, renewable energy security, decarbonisation and environmental sustainability.
Also present at the open house were State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and his wife Datin Amar Baduyah Bujang, and Deputy Minister in Sarawak Premier’s Department (Law, Malaysia Agreement 1963 and State-Federal Relations) Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali.
