Aina Abdul’s concert: Setting new standard for MPO — Music conductor

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Aina Abdul’s powerful vocal range and mesmerising voice, particularly when she sings ballads, have an undeniable ability to evoke emotions in listeners.

Having been part of the country’s entertainment industry for nearly a decade, the singer behind the hit song “Terus Hidup” is known not just for her unique fashion sense but also for her remarkable vocal talent, respected by senior artistes like Hattan and Misha Omar.

Therefore, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra (MPO) conductor Ahmad Muriz Che Rose views the chance to work with Aina, whose full name is Nurul Aina Abdul Ghani, for her debut concert at the Petronas Philharmonic Hall this May as an exceptionally valuable experience.

Just as Aina aspires to perform on the prestigious stage, Ahmad Muriz has long dreamed of organising a successful concert with the singer, thereby setting a new benchmark for his orchestra group.

“It is truly an honourable moment for MPO to have her (Aina), for us to share her talent and perform on the same stage, presenting symphonic renditions of Aina Abdul’s songs.

“Our music arrangement this time has so much intensity, her songs are already in a class of their own...how does MPO make it even better, (evoking) that goosebumps,” he said at a press conference to announce the concert at a hotel here recently.

Ahmad Muriz shared that his interest in collaborating with the graduate of the Bachelor of Contemporary Music from UCSI University, Kuala Lumpur, was sparked three years ago when he saw the singing performance of the Johor Baharu native on a television programme.

Aina’s rendition of Mariah Carey’s song left him awestruck, inspiring him to set his sights on collaborating with her in the future.

Meanwhile, Ahmad Muriz said that arranging the song “Shadow” into a symphony poses one of the greatest challenges for him.

However, he said that the MPO orchestra found it easy to rearrange it, thanks to the Best Vocal Award winner at the 38th Anugerah Juara Lagu and her exceptional talent.

In the meantime, Aina described the concert as a dream come true, and she would use the prestigious stage as a platform to display her maturity as a singer.

“I’m looking forward to seeing mature Aina Abdul... I view (this concert) as a fresh inspiration, offering me the chance to discover new songs (that have been rearranged into a symphony),” she said.

Aina added that she will be performing about 20 songs, including “Sumpah”, “Semalam”, “Sepi”, “Puas” and “Sudah”.

“I’ll start practicing with the MPO in two weeks, and I’m looking forward to giving my best performance at the concert,” she said.
