Hougang United to take part in SMJ Cup

KOTA KINABALU: Hougang United FC from Singapore have confirmed their participat­ion in the 2024 Sabah Maju Jaya Cup (SMJ Cup) four-cornered tournament starting from April 29 to May 5 at Likas Stadium.

Sabah FC director Mohd Joh Wid said a total prize of RM33,000 awaits the winners of this season’s Super League, which includes KL City FC, Kuching City FC and Sabah FC.

He said the second edition of the four-cornered tournament offered prizes in the form of trophies and RM15,000 in cash for the champion, RM10,000 in cash for the runner-up, while third and fourth places would receive RM5,000 and RM3,000 respective­ly.

“This tournament will test the strength and strategy of each team before facing the Malaysian League 2024/2025 which will start on May 10.

“Sedafiat Sdn Bhd and Anika Desiran Sdn Bhd are the sponsors of this year’s SMJ Cup tournament,” he said in a statement on Thursday.

Mohd Joh said the tournament is the best for all the teams to test their players’ compatibil­ity and fitness before facing the real competitio­n.

“Participat­ion of foreign teams can also be seen as a test for Sabah FC team after they were involved in the AFC tournament last year,” he said.

According to Mohd Joh, Sabah FC need to take advantage of the opportunit­y to play on their own field in this tournament which could help to attract their fans and supporters for the 2024 SMJ Cup. Tickets for the match will go on sale starting April 26 and the public can get the tickets online at www.tickethotl­ine.com.my.

Ticket price for grandstand is at RM15 for adult and RM10 for children 12 years and below, while normal ticket price is RM10 for adults and RM5 for children 12 years and below.

The first match will take place on April 29 between KL City and

Kuching FC scheduled at 4pm, while Sabah FC will take on Hougang United FC on the day at 8pm.

The following matches on May 1 will see Kuching City FC taking on Hougang United FC at 4pm, while Sabah FC will meet KL City FC at 8pm.

The third match will be played on May 3 between Hougang United FC and KL City FC at 4.00pm, while Sabah FC will play against Kuching FC at 8pm.

The third and fourth places will be determined on May 5 at 4pm while the final match will be played on the same day at 8pm. All the matches will be held at the Likas Stadium.
