Police beefing up patrol

-

SIBU: Police here are taking stringent measures to tackle crimes, including stepping up patrols in Bertuah Road.

Sibu Police chief ACP Shafie Ismail gave this assurance yesterday following a news report highlighting residents’ concern over rampant theft in the area.

He also called on the public to work closely with them to fight crimes.

“They need to proactively take precautionary measures on their part by not giving opportunities for criminal-minded individuals to commit crime.

“Ensure gate and doors are properly locked when going out or before retiring to bed. Also, never leave your purse or anything valuables in your car which could attract the attention of bad hats.

“If you notice any suspicious characters prowling around your area, record their vehicle numbers and forward to us for immediate attention,” Shafie told The Borneo Post yesterday.

According to the media report, a resident identified only as Wong, bemoaned that her house had been broken in thrice since last December.

She lamented that the latest break-in happened two weeks ago, and that her handbag was snatched while driving her vehicle into her car pouch recently.

Shafie assured: “Starting today ( yesterday) our men will mount more patrols there. We believe the criminal activities there were carried out by the usual bad hats as there was no syndicate involved.”

Meanwhile, Sibu Municipal Council chairman and Lanang MP Datuk Tiong Thai King and Temenggong Lau Lee Ming visited the neighbourhood on Thursday.
