-

SIBU: Playing joke with a colleague’s machete is believed to have led to the murder of an oil palm plantation worker at Penasu, a village about an hour’s drive from here, yesterday.

The foreign worker, identified by the police only as Sukrani, died in a pool of blood in his bedroom after he was chopped by his colleague at 6pm.

The 25-year- old bachelor died instantly.

His body was taken to the hospital by his supervisor in lorry.

The hospital confirmed Sukrani died on arrival while the police have classified the death as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

They ( police) are now hunting for the murderer and another colleague, whom they believe could have committed the crime with common intention.

It was said that Sukrani had hidden the machete belonging to his colleague, his countryman, in the morning.

The colleague searched high and low for it, but, all efforts were futile.

He fumed over the loss of his machete.

Sukrani told him at 2pm that he was the one hiding the weapon; his colleague was not amused. Sukrani also told him where the machete was hidden.

The angry colleague fetched it, returned to look for Sukrani, but, could not find him.

When Sukrani finished work at 6pm, he returned to his room.

The angry colleague stormed in with another colleague and started chopping him.

Sukrani sustained multiple deep wounds, including those on his private parts.

The angry colleague and his countryman ran into the jungle to hide after the murder.

The police rushed over to comb the scene after they were informed of the murder.

It is unclear at press time whether they have found the murder weapon.

The police are seeking help from members of the public to hunt down the murderers.
