Don’t be cheated by power ‘service providers’ – SEB

-

KUCHING: Sarawak Energy Berhad (SEB) urged property owners not to be cheated by power theft ‘ service providers’ who provide fake guarantees and promises.

Property owners found to have committed power theft will be investigated and prosecuted.

Speaking about its campaign to curb power theft, Sarawak Energy’s spokesperson said in a press statement that investigations have uncovered a key tactic used by power theft ‘service providers’ – they guarantee their customers they will not get caught.

They also promised they will be there to settle the case if a customer gets caught.

“We have had many incidences of customers being duped by these ‘service providers’. It is a scam of course, when you are caught, they will be nowhere to be found. You are fully responsible for your actions. Don’t fall for their empty promises.

“Stealing electricity and meter tampering are dangerous acts. Offenders not only endanger themselves but potentially jeopardise the lives of their families, neighbours and communities,” said the spokesperson.

Property owners found to have committed power theft are held fully responsible for their actions. Owners will undergo investigation processes that could lead to prosecution. Power theft investigations and cases are handled in the same manner as criminal cases.

Power theft endangers lives and is a crime punishable with a fine of RM100,000 or five years imprisonment or both. Report suspected power theft to the Sarawak Energy Hotline at 082443535 or email it at customercare@ sarawakenergy.com.my. All reports will be kept strictly confidential.
