Foreigner gets 18 years, 12 strokes for robberies, illegal entry

SANDAKAN: The Sessions Court here sentenced a foreigner to 19 years’ jail and 12 strokes of cane after he pleaded guilty to three counts of robbery and a count of illegal entry.

Rakie Kuna, 34, pleaded guilty before judge Ummu Kalthom Abdul Samad to all the offences.

For the first offence, Rakie was jailed for six years and ordered to be whipped three times for robbing a wallet of a 48-year-man which contained RM1,500 cash at knife point.

He committed the offence with an accomplice at 2.30am on November 22, last year at Bandar Indah.

For the second count, Rakie was sentenced to five years’ jail and a stroke for robbing a woman’s handbag containing valuables and RM2,060 at 2.30pm on Jan 24 this year in front of a shopping complex here.

The accused was sentenced to six years’ jail and four strokes for robbing a woman’s handbag containing RM2,500 cash with an accomplice at 7.40pm on Jan 26 this year at Kampung Sim-Sim.

For the three counts, Rakie was charged under Section 375/397 of the Penal Code which carries a jail term up to seven years, fine and cane upon conviction.

Rakie also received another two years’ jail and four strokes for illegally staying in the state.

Ummu ordered the accused to serve the sentences consecutiv­ely from the date of his arrest at Kampung Forest on Feb 6, this year.
