Seniman sued over AGM
KUALA LUMPUR: Eight individuals, including seven veteran artistes, have filed a suit against Persatuan Seniman Malaysia (Seniman – National Association of Artistes) and seven others over last year’s annual general meeting when they claimed was null and void.
Abu Bakar Omar, Sahlan Sudiran, Mior Ahmat Zaudi Mior Ali, Datuk Abdullah Sani, Merriane Mohd Tap, Jamaliah Mohd Dahan, Azizah Ab Aziz and Roslinda Buang fi led the suit last Jan 25.
Besides Seniman, also named as defendants in the suit are the association officials then, namely the president, Haron Aminar Rashid Salim or Harun Salim Bachik, secretary Omar Kamarudin or Yusof Kelana, treasurer Wafa A. Kadir and Zed Zaidi, who real name is Rozaidi Abdul Jamil, who was then the acting deputy president.
The others are its committee members, Elyas Ismail, Syed Ahmad Nahar Syed Mokhtar and Zaharudin Wahab.
The case came up for mention before Judicial Commissioner Rosilah Yop in chambers yesterday in the presence of lawyers Mohd Azmi Talib and Asmadi Abu Bakar, representing the plaintiffs, and Bazlinda Bahrin and Dalina Hanim Daim, for the defendants.
Mohd Azmi told reporters that the defendants would be fi ling their defence and that the court had set March 1 for case management.
In the statement of claim, the plaintiffs stated that the 14th annual general meeting of the association, as well as its 2011 financial report and the minutes of meeting which was tabled on May 26, 2012, was null and void.
As such, they are also seeking a declaration that selection of office bearers held during the meeting was also invalid.
Besides general and exemplary damages, as well as other relief deem fit by the court, the plaintiffs are also seeking an order for Harun Salim Bachik, Yusof Kelana and Wafa to pay RM56,000 to the association. — Bernama
