Umno gangsters: Information officer denies Harakahdaily report

-

PEKAN: The Information Department Pekan Information officer, Ahmad Nizam Abidin, 43, yesterday lodged a police report over a HarakahDaily report which claimed that he was the Umno gangster who attacked the group of Gerakan Mahasiswa PRU13 (GM13) here recently.

Ahmad Nizam, 43, who filed his report at the Pekan district police station, said the HarakahDaily report was libelous in nature and tarnished his image as a civil servant.

He said he was shocked with the report, adding that, he was on his way home to Pekan from Putrajaya when the alleged incident took place.

“I was surfing the Internet in the office yesterday when I saw my picture posted in HarakahDaily in an article with the title ‘ Yang Serang Kami Keluar Dari Bangunan Umno Pekan’ (the one who attacked us came from the Pekan Umno building).

“The article claimed that I was the Umno gangster involved in attacking the GM13 members while they were distributing pamphlets in the Pekan town,” he told reporters here.

Ahmad Nizam expressed regret over the report by HarakahDaily and wanted the GM13 chairman Syis Abd Kadir to retract the statement and made a public apology.

He also demanded a public apology from HarakahDaily for posting the article.

Failing which, Ahmad Nizan said, he would not hesitate to take legal action against them.

On Feb 15, the GM13 members who were involved in a programme with Pekan residents claimed that they were treated badly by a group of gangsters. — Bernama
