TAPAH: Two people were killed while five others were injured in an accident involving a lorry and express bus at Km314.3 of the North- South Highway (north-bound), here yesterday.

In the 7am incident, those killed were express bus driver Mohd Anuar Jantan, 42, and passenger Abdul Rahman Noh, 59.

One of the victims, lorry driver M V Saravanan, 24, said the bus had attempted to overtake his lorry but could not avoid a car on the right lane.

“The bus suddenly appeared at the back and hit the right side of my lorry before skidding to the left shoulder of the highway.

“I saw the bus driver jump out of the bus during the collision. His head hit the metal divider in the middle of the highway,” he told reporters at the scene yesterday.

The bus was on its way from Johor Baharu to Penang while the lorry was heading to Penang from Shah Alam.

Firemen helped to extricate the trapped and injured passengers.

Meanwhile, Tapah Police Chief Supt Som Sak Din Keliaw said besides the driver, the bus was carrying 10 passengers.

He said the driver and a passenger died on the spot and five others critically injured, while four were not hurt in the accident.
