Summer Mall Cup basketball tourney attracts 23 teams

KUCHING: The Summer Mall Cup Youth Boys and Girls Under 20 and Under 15 Basketbal l Championships to be held at MBKS Indoor Stadium in Pending from Feb 23 to Mar 8 had attracted 23 teams.

Organising secretary Raymond Teo said the response encouraging particularly for the Boys Under-20 category with 10 teams taking part while seven teams are competing in the Boys Under-15 and three teams are vying for the Girls Under-20 title and four for the Girls Under-15category.

The teams for the Boys Under-20 are Tunku Putra International School, Jin Lee Sea Products Sdn Bhd, Wak & Brother, Newbie, Blazer, Starry Sports, Banquet, Hoover, Rookies and Royal.

Batu Kawa Sports Club will vie with Knight, Matahari A, Matahari B, Highians, SJS and Chung Hua Middle School (CHMS) No. 1 ( Pest) for the Boys Under15 crown while the teams for Girls Under-20 are Highians, GT Industries, CHMS No. 1 whereas the teams for Girls Under-15 are Highians, CHMS No. 1, Gapor and Lodge School.

The tourney is sponsored by Summer Shopping Mall Sdn Bhd and is aimed to promote basketball among youths and to encourage them to take up sports activities.

The event is also to select players to represent Kuching in the coming Sarawak Inter-Division Youth Under- 20 and Under15 Basketball Championships to be held from Mar 23- 27. It is organised by the Kuching Division Basketball Association ( KDBA).
