Wyndham Homes receives interest for My Wall from Un-habitat
KUALA LUMPUR: Wyndham Homes Sdn Bhd ( Wyndham Homes) has received interest from UNHabitat to explore the prospects of using its composite material, My Wall, in building shelters.
UN- Habitat is the Asia- Pacific arm of the United Nations agency for human settlements.
In a statement yesterday, Wyndham Homes said UN-Habitat was interested in utilising the My Wall composite material in shelter construction, as it was in line with the organisation’s aim of promoting social ly and environmentally sustainable towns and cities in pursuing its goal of providing shelter to communities in the region.
“We welcome Wyndham whose technology in housing construction using composite material is volunteerfriendly with a product that suits all four seasons and climates.
“We promo te sus t a inable empowerment of the communities and promote building in stages to provide a gradual customisation to different needs of the various communities,” UN- Habitat director Joseph Scaria was quoted as saying after leading a delegation of housing construction technology experts to a site visit and inspection of Wyndham’s show house in Raub, Pahang.
He said that UN- Habit at ’ s partnership with Wyndham was a challenging dream, and the show house ref lected Malaysian low- cost housing as a very revolutionary model.
He said both parties would have to work out the finer details on the costing in order to use the housing construction concept in reaching out to various segments of society which were used to the conventional building methods using brick and mortar.
The Asia Pacific arm of UN Habitat provides an average 45,000 units per year and is active in the Mekong Delta, the Philippines and India to name a few countries. — Bernama
