SARATOK: Daini Sami emerged champion in both the traditional culinary and bakery recipes competition organised by Kumpulan Anak Seni (KWAS) Saratok in the compound of Sarawak Islamic Welfare Trust Board yesterday morning.

A total of 11 local women took part in the competition.

The organising chairman, Kampung Melango headman Jamahari Gom, who presented the prizes, said the main objectives of the competition were to promote the traditional recipes as well as to encourage the locals to inherit and treasure them as a communal identity.

Like in any competitions, he believed the activity had in a way helped in enhancing competitive spirit and creativity among the participants, hence contributed towards improving the quality of their cooking skills, he added.

Moreover, most of the participants were members of the local KWAS, who had followed cooking demonstrations conducted every weekend by instructor Mariah Borhan.

All winners walked home with hampers.

Among those present were Pemanca Sahari Gani, Penghulu Rajali and a community leader Abang Mohamad Abang Osman.
