MRC Miri Chapter to hold blood donation drive tomorrow

-

MIRI: The Miri Chapter of the Malaysian Red Crescent ( MRC) will be holding a mass blood donation campaign tomorrow at Bintang Megamall.

The campaign would be held on the first floor of the new wing of the shopping complex from 10am to 1pm.

“We are appealing to healthy and caring members of the public to fully support us.

Our minimum target is 50 donors but of course the more the better to help Miri Hospital maintain a reasonable level of blood stock,” organising chairman Karambir Singh told The Borneo Post yesterday.

Karambir who is also the publicity officer of MRC Miri Chapter said the hospital required all blood types but currently the emphasis is on ‘A’ and ‘O’ blood groups.

The campaign themed ‘Every blood donor is a hero’ is one of their ongoing monthly campaigns.

Meanwhile, those wanting to donate must ensure that they are reasonably healthy and not on medication, aged between 18 and 60, has a minimum weight of 45kg and haemoglobin level of 12.5 g/dl and above.

They must not belong or be exposed to high risk groups such as those who are HIV or hepatitis positive, have multiple sex partners, is a prostitute, homosexual, bisexual or an intravenous drug user.

Those interested to donate regularly can contact MRC at 085- 411121 or go to the blood bank at the Miri General Hospital.

Those needing further information can contact Karambir at 016-8785500.
