SIM brings out the best in its students

- By Margaret Apau reporters@theborneopost.com

KUCHING: Time and again, Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) has confi rmed its position as one of Singapore’s most preferred Private Education Institutes with 49 years of heritage, over 98,000 graduates and a host of awards and accolades.

SIM knows that it takes more than classroom excellence to inspire its students to succeed. Its approach towards an all-rounded and holistic education experience is to support its intended student outcome -- to let them bring out their best whether it’s in the classroom, or beyond.

Beyond the classroom, an exciting student life awaits its students. There are year-round activities from more than 70 student clubs offering students ample opportunities to pursue their interests in arts, culture, and sports and develop personal skills in communication and leadership. Through competitions and activities, students gain exposure, build community bonds and networks that will benefit them later in life.

Infrastructure Facilities

SIM ensures that its studentcentric campuses are outfitted with the latest in technology and facilities to enhance students’ learning experience. SIM campuses are enabled with highspeed wireless Internet access to connect students to a wealth of information and online services.

SIM houses a well-equipped hostel with a gym, a dance studio, tennis courts and more to provide our students with a holistic educational experience at SIM.

To cater to its fast-growing student population, SIM has embarked on a $ 300 million Campus Development Master Plan to more than double its main campus over two phases to be completed in 2014. The construction of the expanded campus will include new facilities such as performing arts theatre, sport halls and roof-top tennis courts.

Blend of Cultures

With a blend of 40 nationalities from across the globe, SIM’s global mix of cultural diversities continues to grow -- this provides an excellent platform for cultural exchange and knowledge sharing.

Education Choice

Students can choose from a diverse suite of over 50 programmes, from more than 10 internationally acclaimed partner universities in Australia, Switzerland, the United States and the United Kingdom.

International students can apply for the programmes offered by the following partner universities: IMI International Hotel Management Institute Switzerland; RMIT University, Australia; University of Wollongong, Australia; The University of Sheffield, UK; The University of Warwick, UK; University of Birmingham, UK;

University of London, UK; University of Stirling, Scotland; University at Buffalo and; The State University of New York, US.

SIM’s programmes are taught by local lecturers and international faculty, and offer the best of both worlds to our students, combining Asian perspectives with international practices, and a global outlook on industry topics and issues. Its university partners send some of their best and senior lecturers to SIM so that its students can benefit from their perspectives and sharing.

Students can also enjoy cost savings as it is more costeffective to take the degree in Singapore in comparison to the actual onsite campus.

In addition, there are opportunities to progress to higher qualification in Singapore or overseas upon graduation.

Stability

SIM has built a solid reputation on the strength of its strong governance in its 49-year history, partnerships with reputable universities, and top-notch faculty.

Scholarship

SIM awards SIM Global Education Scholarships to deserving local and international students to enable them to pursue Bachelor’s Degree programmes at SIM. There is no bond attached to the scholarships.
