PKR flag has meanings behind it, Miri branch chairman explains

-

MIRI: PKR Miri explained that the Parti Keadilan Rakyat ( PKR) flag is made up of unique symbols with special meanings behind them.

Last Tuesday, a Malaysian engineer in Ipoh Mohamad Ridhwan Batumalai Abdullah was reported to have lodged a police report on the PKR flag bearing similarities to the currency of a foreign country, and demanded that PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim explain the meaning of the blue, red and white colours in the flag, and reveal who designed the party's flag and logo.

“Nothing wrong here — our Jalur Gemilang national flag is very similar to the stars- andstripes of the USA flag, and our national anthem ‘ NegaraKu' was also adapted from another song,” claimed PKR Miri branch chairman Dr Michael Teo who found it most amusing to learn of the police report.

Dr Teo explained that the white half moons in the PKR's flag symbolise the Muslim majority in the country, the red stripes were added when the party merged with another socialist party, while the blue background is a contrast to the red in Umno's flag.

“The eye-like symbol in the middle also symbolises Anwar's black eye after being beaten by a police chief,” said Dr Teo who thought it was designed by a few people about 13 years ago.

Dr Teo was not perturbed by Ridhwan's call on Muslims in the country not to vote for the opposition.

“The party manifesto is most important, and performances in the Pakatan Rakyat-ruled states Penang and Selangor speak for themselves,” added Dr Teo who is still hopeful of contesting the Miri seat in the coming 13th general election.
