KUCHING: A dramatic car chase involving two men ended with their arrest in Kota Samarahan after they had rammed their way past at least a dozen cars and a motorcycle yesterday.

The incident occurred around 5.45pm at Jalan Song when a police patrol car spotted a Perodua Kenari with two men inside being driven in a suspicious manner, and directed them to stop.

Instead of complying, the pair sped off and led police on a 45-minute-long chase which took them through King’s Centre, Tabuan Dayak, Jalan Song and Taman BDC during which the suspects collided with more than 12 cars and a motorcycle.

The chase, which also saw the pair driving against the flow of traffic in their bid to escape the law, finally ended at a construction site at Taman Uni Garden in Kota Samarahan when the duo abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot.

Patrol officers and an undercover CID officers from district police headquarters then went on a manhunt for the suspects and managed to locate one of them hiding in the toilet of a nearby house.

They then proceeded to scour a nearby secondary jungle and successfully located the second suspect — a 25-year- old from Kampung Panglima Seman — around 8.30pm hiding in a bush.

A pouch belonging to the second suspect was also found in the jungle, although it did not contain anything illegal.

A check on the Kenari, meanwhile, found that it belonged to a friend of the duo and was not reported stolen.

When questioned, the second suspect admitted to being the driver and said he fled from the police because he was under the influence of drugs at the time.

Both have been detained for further investigation as police seek to establish whether they are involved in other criminal activities.
