S’wak regional yo-yo contest coming soon

KUCHING: The Sarawak Regional Yo-yo Contest 2013 will be happening on April 20 and 21 at Riverside Shopping Centre here.

Last year’s champion, Ryan Chung and his team of yo-yo enthusiast­s are the organisers for the event.

The event is expected to draw around 25 participan­ts who will battle it out to be the nine finalists who will represent Sarawak at the Malaysia National Yo-yo Contest in June in Kuala Lumpur.

The contest is divided into five main groups, which are onehanded (1A), double-handed (2A), triple A ( 3A), off- string (4A) and counter weight (5A).

Besides that, there are also the record holder groups for Long Sleeper, Eli Hops, Loop Record and Fast Challenge.

The groups are judged based on technical skills and performanc­e. Registrati­on fees apply. The champion from the national contest will represent the country in the Asia Pacific Yo-yo Championsh­ip in July in Singapore.

Prizes for the contest are yoyo related merchandis­es, such as accessorie­s and apparel, in addition to a medal and trophy each winner.

As sideline events for the two days, booths selling yo-yo merchandis­e and a workshop for those who are interested in the game will be put up.

The contest is part of the newly formed Malaysia Yo-yo League, which is a series of contests sanctioned and supervised by common rules and regulation­s as well as standards of the yo-yo world.

Sponsors for the event include Sara Urusharta, 28spin Online Skill Toys Webstore, 28spin Kuching, Team Yo- Blitz, Terengganu Regional Yo-yo Club, YoyoJam, Yoyo Factory and Duncan.
