Lamborghini expects to maintain sales numbers albeit slower China market growth

-

BEIJING: Lamborghini expects to achieve about the same sales numbers as last year, although the luxury super sports cars market in China is likely to slow for the first time following continued growth in 2011 and 2012.

The economic and pol icy environment as well as model cycles were among the major factors affecting the market, China Daily quoted president and chief execut ive off icer of Lamborghini Automobil i SpA, Stephan Winkelmann as saying.

However, Winkelmann expected the company to sell ‘a bit more than 200 cars’ in the world’s second largest economy this year, about the same figure as last year.

Last year, a total of 234 cars were sold in China while 58 were sold in the first quarter of this year.

The Italian automaker will celebrate its 50th anniversary worldwide in 2013, including in China, and has brought the Lamborghini Aventador LP 720- 4 50 Anniversario and Gallardo LP 560-2 50Anniversario to the Shanghai Auto Show which runs from April 21 to 29.

Lamborghini now has 19 dealerships in China.

Winkelmann said Lamborghini’s centre of gravity currently was its clients and not having more dealerships in China.

The company planned to improve staff training in the next few months before the next step of expanding the dealer network, he added. — Bernama
