Police, EC lodge reports on allegation of early voting

-

KUALA LUMPUR: Two police reports have been lodged against blog website ‘milosuam.blogspot. com’ for allegedly spreading a rumour that police officers and personnel were directed to vote earlier for the coming 13th General Election (GE13).

Inspector- General of Police Secretariat ( public relations) assistant head ACP Ramli Mohamed Yoosuf said a report was lodged by a commercial crime CID officer here and another by the Election Commission ( EC) in Putrajaya on Wednesday evening, over the posting in the blog website.

He said the website was factually incorrect and attempted to confuse the public when it stated the police had been directed to vote earlier on April 23.

As it was a statement which could cause public fear, the matter was being investigated under Section 505 (B) of the Penal Code, and Section 233 (1)(a) of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, he added.

Meanwhile, Ramli said Bukit Aman had received 274 reports on the GE13 yesterday alone, bringing the total number of reports received so far, to 906.

He said 1,410 activities involving GE13 were held nationwide yesterday, comprising talks or ‘ceramah’ ( 591), gatherings and meetings (166), house-to- house visits (100), campaigns ( 332) and others (221).

Ramli said the total number of arrests since nomination day stood at 25, adding that three people were caught yesterday for various election offences. — Bernama
