Learn all about snakes at UCSI University this evening
KUCHING: MNS Kuching Branch will be holding a talk on snakes at UCSI University today at 7.30pm.
Snakes are carnivorous elongate reptiles that are covered in scales and unlike many reptiles, they do not have legs.
Some people love them, while others are afraid of them.
The public can learn more about the reptile in the 90-minute talk by speaker Hans Breuer who is a German expatriate.
According to a press release issued yesterday, the talk will discuss on people’s general understanding about snakes, why the reptile is important, how people can react when they come across a wild snake, treatment to get when bitten by one, its natural history as well as the biology of snakes.
Another highlight of the talk will be the visual presentation.
Hans, who was previously based in Taiwan since 1989, has accumulated over the years a fair amount of knowledge about Taiwan’s herpetofauna.
He speaks fluent Mandarin and had given many talks to primary and secondary school children in Taiwan about snakes and related conservation issues.
Hans said children needed to be given a chance to understand in depth such fascinating creatures in order to learn to appreciate their beauty.
He believes human do not fear snake until they are taught about its dangers.
He hopes to enlighten the public, especially school children, before their perception on snakes is ruined and become ophidiaphobic.
Admission to the talk is free and those interested to attend are encouraged to register with mnskuching@ gmail.com.
