Longhouse folk declare support for Nanta

KAPIT: Longhouse folk in Melipis, Ibau and Nanga Sebatu, Rajang River have declared their support for incumbent Kapit Member of Parliament Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi.

Area community leader Penghulu Nylong Daga, who spoke for the longhouse folk, said the people have no reason not to vote for him.

“Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi has performed well since he was first elected to parliament in 1999. He has worked tirelessly to successful­ly implement many developmen­t programmes that have benefited the rural community,” he said during a gathering of villagers at Rumah Robert Ngembang at Nanga Sebatu on Wednesday.

“Since he has helped us a lot, there’s no reason we won’t vote for him come this May 5. We’ll continue to support Datuk Alexander to give him an even bigger mandate so that he would serve us in the next five years.

“By voting for Datuk Alexander, it’s our hope to send a clear message that we support BN

(Barisan Nasional) and we want developmen­t — not only physical and infrastruc­tural amenities but also to introduce economic activities for our land, especially cash crop planting to enhance our income.”

He stressed that the people’s loyalty remained with the BN leadership — Chief Minister Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.

The gathering was in connection with the visit of Kapit Division Iban community leader Temenggong Datuk Kenneth Kanyan, along with Daniel Jubang — a political secretary to the Chief Minister, Kapit District Council deputy walikota Jefferson Jamit, as well as headmen and heads of government department­s.

Meanwhile, Assistant Minister of Public Utilities (Electricit­y and Telecommun­ications) Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi Utom is scheduled to visit Rumah Robert Ngembang on Monday (May 29).

Longhouse folk are invited to attend the gathering at 10am.
