Head of polling centre, policeman injured following attack while delivering ballot box

KOTA BAHARU: The head of a polling centre and a policeman sustained light injuries after they were attacked by more than 20 supporters of a political party while sending a ballot box to the Vote Tallying Centre at the Mara Junior Science College ( MRSM) in Tumpat Sunday night.

In the incident at about 11.30pm, both victims who are in their 30’s, sustained light injuries after the party supportes broke the windows of their car using hard objects and jumped on board the vehicle.

Kelantan Police Chief Datuk Jalaluddin Abdul Rahman said however, a police team rushed to the scene and broke up the attack.

“We managed to save the ballot box from being hijacked by the party supporters and would carry out an investigat­ion on the incident,” he told a press conference at the Kelantan Contingent Police Headquarte­rs, here. — Bernama
